Supreme Court Issues Notice to Defense Secretary and Inspector General of Police Regarding Conspiracy to Kill Former CID Chief Shani Abeysekera in a Car Accident – Sri Lanka Latest News

The Supreme Court has issued a notice directing the Defense Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne, the National Police Commission and the Inspector General of Police Deshbandhu Tennakoon to explain the facts to the court regarding the conspiracy to kill the former director of the Secret Police Shani Abeysekera in a car accident.Sri Lanka Latest News

The Supreme Court accepted the facts presented by President’s Attorney Upul Jayasuriya claiming that the life of Mr. Shani Abeysekera was in danger and issued a notice ordering him to appear in court and clarify the facts on August 9.

The petition was considered before a bench comprising of Supreme Court Judges Vijith Malalgoda, Murdu Fernando and Yasanta Kodagoda.

In the petition filed by the former Director of Secret Police Mr. Shani Abeysekera, the Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon, the National Police Commission and the Defense Secretary have been named as respondents.

When the petition was called, the President’s Advocate Mr. Upul Jayasuriya, who appeared for the petitioner, stated that there is a conspiracy to kill his client by causing a car accident and that there is a possibility of committing this crime at any moment and under this situation, the life of his client is in danger.

Pointing out that the security provided to his client is not enough, President’s Attorney Mr. Upul Jayasuriya asked the court to increase the security and take steps to protect his life.

Accepting the facts presented, the Supreme Court issued a notice ordering the respondents to appear in court on the 9th and ordered the petitioner Mr. Shani Abeysekara to deliver the relevant notice to the respondents.
