Superintendent T.M. Appointed as Public Order Director Amid Controversy Over Ajanta Rodrigo’s Canceled Appointment
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Superintendent of Police T.M. has been appointed as the new Director of the Public Order Management Division, following the immediate cancellation of Mr. Ajanta Rodrigo’s appointment. The decision was made by the Acting Inspector General of Police.

Mr. Rodrigo’s appointment faced significant backlash on social media, largely due to numerous allegations of human rights violations associated with his past actions.

Notably, during the recent protest movements, Mr. Rodrigo has been accused of personally engaging in violent methods to disperse unarmed demonstrators. One particular incident occurred in June 2023, during a protest in Borella marking Black July 1983, where he allegedly attacked protestors, leading to the injury of Mrs. Sandhya Ekneligoda.

Additionally, Superintendent Rodrigo is accused of providing false testimony against Wasantha Mudalige, the convener of the Inter-University Student Council.
