M.A Sumanthiran of the Tamil National Alliance stated that the presidential term is for five years, and there is no need for any amendments at this time. He mentioned that during the good governance period of 2015, a principled decision was made not to amend anything regarding referendums, with Ranil heading the committee responsible.
Consequently, Mr. Sumanthiran described the President’s speech as false, attributing it to a mistake by Mr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne, and reiterated that there is no need for the 22nd amendment now.
