A sudden fire broke out in the forest reserve of the Dikoya-Dorawala Estate in Hatton, Dikoya, at around 2:00 pm today (26).
Owing to the severe dry weather and strong winds in the area, the fire has spread rapidly across the estate. Estate workers are reportedly making strenuous efforts to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Experts warn that the intense heat currently affecting the central hills has caused many local water sources to dry up. In this context, environmentalists emphasize that the ongoing fire poses a serious risk to the remaining water sources, potentially causing further drying and destruction of these vital resources.
