Mr Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, said in the Parliament today (06) that they present various reports representing various ministries and representing various parliamentary chambers and also give formal answers to the questions raised in the Parliament, but the answers given are not being implemented. The country’s elderly community and retired community were previously given a special interest rate of 15 per cent on their savings, and the elderly community and retired community live on that interest, but it has been reduced to 7.5 per cent, so the interest rate has been increased to 15 per cent. Mr Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, said here that although it was said in Parliament earlier that it would be done, it has not been implemented.
Also, the opposition leader mentioned here that the proposal to adjust the pension has not yet been implemented and after the victory of the 2019 presidential election, the adjustment for the pension from 2016 to 2020 has been cut, but it has not been corrected so far.
Also, the opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa further said that due to the pressure exerted by the opposition on several occasions in the parliament regarding the problems of the pensioners, the government has taken measures to provide some allowances to the elderly community and the retired community.
