In Kollupitiya area, the police have fired tear gas and water cannons at the protestors.

The members of the Inter-University Student Council started a protest march in front of the United Nations office in Tummulla this afternoon (16).

It was based on several demands such as the abolition of the Terrorism Act, the lowering of the tax burden and the price of goods, and the release of the convener of the Inter-University Student Council, Wasantha Mudali.

Several roads in Colombo were also blocked due to the protest march.

There was a traffic jam on the approach road to Bauddaloka Mawatha from Tunmulla junction.

However, the Fort Magistrate Court issued an order preventing a protest to be held at Gallumudoora.

It was prevented from entering from Lipton Roundabout through Union Place towards Galumudoora.

However, it has been further mentioned in the relevant order that there is no obstacle for the protestors to protest without entering the Gall face.
