The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning to fishing and naval vessels regarding strong winds expected today, following severe weather that caused significant damage across several parts of the country, including Colombo.
According to reports, gusty winds have wreaked havoc, damaging houses, commercial buildings, vehicles, and hoardings in affected areas.
The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department stated that the seas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasaththurai via Puttalam and Mannar, as well as from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times, with wind speeds reaching between 60 to 70 km/h.
Fishermen and naval personnel have been strongly advised not to venture into these very rough sea areas until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre reported that over 7,239 individuals across 14 districts have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
