Reverend Father Cyril Gamini says that the Catholic Church believes that former President Maithripala Sirisena knew about the Easter Sunday attack from the beginning. Sri Lanka Latest News

He stated this at a news conference held today at the Archbishop’s official residence to express his displeasure over the Inspector General of Police’s visit to Katuwapitiya last Easter Sunday and to inquire about the well-being of the victims.

Last Easter Sunday, Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon visited St. Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya and inspected the security situation and inquired about the well-being of the victims of the attack.

The Catholic Church held a news conference today and criticized the action of the Inspector General of Police.

At St. Sebastian’s Shrine in Katuwapitiya, Reverend Father Manjula Niroshan

“Easter Sunday is a special day for all of us. We performed the divine puja in the morning and we were not informed in any way. We are not asking for a bag of dry rations. We are not looking. We demand, most obviously, justice. He is asking us to provide disclosures.

Question – Are you not aware of coming to the church?

“No, we are not aware in any way. Even the police officers who were there did not tell us. You don’t have to come for that, you have to come to investigate.”

Rev. Cyril Gamini of the Catholic Church,

“Giving a bag of goods and lighting candles is an insult to the victims and the people of the country. It makes no sense to crush garlic like this.”

Question – You kept looking for who did this. I think now that problem has been solved. Mr. Maithripala Sirisena has told the court that he knows it.

“Is there a solution? Or not, we don’t know. The main thing that is emphasized to us is that there were other people behind the bombing. That means the story that Dappula de Livera said is a conspiracy will be revealed.”

Question – Through his statement, a newspaper has reported that India is also involved. What is your opinion?

“That is what is said in the statement given to the secret statement. But no one knows exactly that statement. What could not be said for 5 years because all at once. We do not believe at all that he became aware of it three weeks ago. We believe that he was aware of his existence then. This requires an independent investigative team.”
