Statements have been recorded from six individuals, including senior officials of the National Institute of Education (NIE), in connection with the incident involving the inclusion of a link to an obscene website in the Grade Six English module.

Those who provided statements include officials from the Academic Affairs Division of the NIE, module writers, editors responsible for reviewing the content, and officers involved in proofreading the material.

According to ministry sources, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting investigations into the matter, is expected to submit its report next week. In addition, the report of the Ranjith Ariyaratne Committee, appointed to carry out preliminary investigations into the NIE’s module preparation process, is also likely to be handed over during the same period.

When contacted regarding the issue, Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne stated that steps are being taken to seek guidance from a panel of experts with the aim of strengthening and improving the module development process of the National Institute of Education.
