Air Lanka, the national airline of Sri Lanka, has reported a loss of US$ 525 million for the year ended March 2022.

Air Lanka, which has more than six thousand employees, is the most loss-making public company in the country.

Currently, Sri Lanka Airlines is among the loss-making public institutions proposed to be restructured by the government.

Last December, Sri Lankan Airlines defaulted on the payment of US$ 175 million in loan interest.

Sri Lanka Airlines has never reported a profit since the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa sacked Peter Hill, who was the Executive Director of Air Lanka at the time.

The former president and his group of 35 people who had left for a private visit to the United Kingdom on their way back, the former president Peter Hill was expelled based on a problem to get seats for the group.
