A delegation of 10 Airport Managers from Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Private Limited (AASL) completed a customized capacity enhancement programme at Indian Aviation Academy (IAA), New Delhi from 09-20 March 2026.

AASL is statutorily empowered to manage and develop civil airports in Sri Lanka. IAA is a premier institute for Education, Training, and Research in Aviation, functioning as joint training academy of Airports Authority of India, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. A Full Member of ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS program, the academy fosters a culture of experiential learning with training activities across all domains of aviation.

The two-week programme provided exposure to the participants to diverse areas of the aviation sector including Terminal Operations, Passenger Terminal Planning and Management; Strategies in Managing Airside; Air Traffic Management, Passenger Facilitation; Aviation Safety and Security; Aircraft Recovery and Equipment; Crisis Management and Emergency, Business Continuity Planning, among others.

The programme was organised within the framework of ongoing bilateral cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in the area of capacity development. The cooperation was further enhanced through addition of 700 customized training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals based on announcement made by the Prime Minister of India, Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi, during his State visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025. Complementing this initiative, nearly 300 Sri Lankan civil servants are undergoing training each year under a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Centre for Good Governance of India, and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, signed during the State visit of President of Sri Lanka, H.E Anura Kumara Disanayaka to India in December 2024.
