Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers had given approval to amend the Civil Aviation law of the country to allow public private partnerships in aviation services, a government statement said.
Section 6 (3) e of the Civil Aviation Act currently requires providers of aviation services at airports in Sri Lanka to have a majority government holding.
The cabinet had given the nod to appoint “one or more as service providers” for the provision of aviation services”.
Airports have a number of services ranging from providing fuel to ground handling to navigation services.
At the moment it is planned to liberalize ground handling, an official familiar with the discussions said.
