Sri Lanka on Monday expressed deep concern over recent developments in Venezuela and called for a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
In a statement issued on January 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said the government is closely monitoring the situation and emphasized the importance of respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prohibition of the use of force.
The statement highlighted the need for non-intervention and the peaceful settlement of international disputes, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and de-escalation to ensure the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people as well as regional stability.
Sri Lanka also underscored the importance of the United Nations and its relevant organs, including the UN Security Council, remaining actively engaged in the matter to work toward a peaceful outcome that respects Venezuela’s sovereign rights.
The statement did not mention any specific country or refer to particular military actions.
