Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring will be completed by December, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today.
Speaking at an election rally in Gampaha, the President explained the progress:
“We have made substantial headway. There’s just a bit more to complete. Starting from 2028, we will begin repaying our debts, and we have already calculated the amount due. With the right policies, the government can build an economy capable of meeting these obligations,” he said.
He added that an IMF delegation is expected to visit Sri Lanka two days after the general election, which will pave the way for the third review, anticipated to be finalized by the end of January or early February. “This will allow us to achieve meaningful economic stability,” he concluded.
