Sri Lanka made a strong start at the 4th SAAF South Asian Senior Athletics Championship, clinching two gold medals and a silver as the event kicked off on Friday (24) at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, India.
Chamod Yodasinghe emerged as South Asia’s fastest man after storming to victory in the Men’s 100m final, clocking an impressive 10.30 seconds to set a new championship record and secure gold for Sri Lanka.
Earlier in the day, Pasindu Malshan brought home the country’s first gold of the tournament by winning the Men’s Triple Jump with a leap of 16.19 metres.
Adding to the medal tally, Viknaraj Vakshan earned silver in the Men’s 5000m event, continuing Sri Lanka’s strong presence on the track.
Athletes from six South Asian nations — India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives — are competing in the championship, which will feature an array of track and field events in the days ahead.
