The Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has met with the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar to discuss the rescue of the Sri Lankans who are imprisoned in the Myawaddy region in Myanmar.

Acting Secretary U.L. Mohammad Jauhar said that special attention was paid to the urgent need to provide support for rescuing them and repatriating them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that there has been difficulty in accessing the relevant area for the Myanmar government to rescue the Sri Lankans being held in captivity.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that it has been reported that a group is engaged in collecting money from the families concerned, promising to help rescue the Sri Lankans trapped in Myanmar and bring them back to the island.

The Ministry advises to beware of such groups.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that Foreign Minister Ali Sabry has discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar to intervene to rescue the Sri Lankans being held captive in Myawaddy.
