The Sri Lanka Police has set up cyber crime investigation units in five provinces, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Nishantha Chandrasekara, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Katana Police Training Institute.

During his appearance on the Derana Big Focus program, he revealed that efforts are underway to extend these units across all nine provinces, ensuring coverage for the entire country.

Chandrasekara emphasized that the police force is now in a robust position technologically. He noted that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) currently oversees a dedicated cyber crime investigation unit. Investigations related to cyber crime are carried out under this division, which is managed by the Director of the CID.

In addition, regional cyber crime units have been established in Ampara, Kurunegala, Matara, and Kandy, covering five provinces, with active investigations taking place within these regions.

Chandrasekara further highlighted that every police station in Sri Lanka is equipped with the necessary facilities to handle investigations related to cyber crime.
