The Parliament complex is currently undergoing a significant renovation project, the first of its scale in 42 years.
A Parliament spokesperson told Mawrata that the work is being carried out under the instructions of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.
According to the proposed renovation plan, upgrades will include the medical center, toilet system, Members of Parliament lounges, shower facilities, and copper doors. While previous renovation work was handled by the Parliamentary Engineering Department, this large-scale project is being carried out with the labor contribution of the Sri Lanka Army. The maintenance process has already commenced, the spokesperson confirmed.
