The exchange of seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Maldives and Sri Lanka across multiple sectors was held this morning (04) at the Presidential Secretariat, in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Sri Lanka Latest News
The MoUs cover cooperation in the fields of health, sports, tourism, education, and security, marking a new chapter in Maldives–Sri Lanka relations.
Accordingly, the following agreements were exchanged:
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Tourism Sector between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives was exchanged by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Mrs. Iruthisham Adam, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism, Mr. Vijitha Herath.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Archival Cooperation between the Department of National Archives of Sri Lanka and the National Archives of Maldives was exchanged by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Mrs. Iruthisham Adam, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism, Mr. Vijitha Herath.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Training and Professional Development of Teachers and School Leaders between the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education of Sri Lanka was exchanged by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Mrs. Iruthisham Adam, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism, Mr. Vijitha Herath.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Sports and Youth Development between the Republic of Maldives and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was exchanged by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Ms. Iruthisham Adam, and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Security Cooperation between the National Counter-Terrorism Centre of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Defence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was exchanged by the High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Mr. Masood Imad, and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuiyakontha.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defence and National Services of the Republic of Maldives and the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was exchanged by the High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Mr. Masood Imad, and the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Mr. Rear Admiral Dhammika Kumara.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation between the University of Colombo, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare of the Republic of Maldives was exchanged by the High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Mr. Masood Imad, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Prof. Indika Mahesh Karunathilaka.
The President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with the aim of further strengthening economic, cultural, and social relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, as well as enhancing the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
A Maldivian delegation, including Cabinet Ministers and officials from both Sri Lanka and the Maldives, participated in the event.
