In a significant move to enhance public hygiene and improve travel convenience, a national-level program was officially launched at the Presidential Secretariat to provide basic sanitation facilities at fuel stations islandwide.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among the Clean Sri Lanka Presidential Task Force, the Ministry of Energy, and four leading fuel suppliers: Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Lanka IOC PLC (LIOC), Sinopec Energy Lanka (Private) Limited, and RM Parks (Private) Limited.
The initiative aims to transform fuel stations throughout Sri Lanka into accessible, safe, and clean public sanitation points, including facilities tailored for individuals with disabilities. The program targets the establishment of 540 modern sanitation facilities within a three-year period.
Of these, 100 facilities are planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, stated that this initiative is a vital step toward delivering sustainable public services and forms part of the broader “Clean Sri Lanka” project. He emphasized that this program represents a successful model of public-private sector collaboration and expressed hopes of further expansion through partnerships with private institutions such as supermarkets.
“This is not just an agreement, but a promise for a clean, healthy, and proud Sri Lanka,” Dr. Kumanayake affirmed.
