Sri Lanka has granted preliminary approval for Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service. The initiative, aimed at enhancing internet connectivity, particularly in regions outside Colombo, involves significant collaboration between the Sri Lankan government and SpaceX. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has completed most of the preliminary work, with final approval pending from the Ministry of Defence .
Pre-orders for Starlink are now open in Sri Lanka, with a refundable deposit of USD 9. The service is expected to roll out later in 2024, contingent on receiving the necessary regulatory clearances
