Sri Lanka Grants 14-Day Departure Window for Long-Term Russian and Ukrainian Tourists Amid Visa Policy Shift
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In response to the evolving dynamics of the Russian-Ukraine conflict, the Department of Immigration and Emigration has set a deadline for Russian and Ukrainian tourists residing long-term in Sri Lanka to leave the country. Controller Harsha Illukpitiya issued a directive, effective from Friday, February 23, granting a 14-day window for departure, with no extensions, for individuals who have been staying in Sri Lanka since February 28, 2022.

While direct flights between Russia and Sri Lanka have resumed and Ukrainians have air travel options, the need for continual visa extensions has diminished. This move aims to regulate visa policies and address concerns regarding foreigners running illegal businesses, as highlighted by recent incidents such as a controversial party advertisement by a Russian DJ.
