During State Minister Sanath Nishantha’s funeral, the Sri Lankan Army reportedly served food to mourners, sparking questions about the ethical implications of military involvement in civilian affairs.
The Morning website reached out to military spokesperson Major General Rasika Kumara for clarification.
According to Kumara, the army’s role was limited to cooking, with ingredients provided by the family and other parties.
When questioned about the appropriateness of military intervention in such tasks, Kumara explained that the army commander has discretion to respond to such requests. Additionally, he noted that the army provides similar services during disaster situations.
