Speeches of some MPs have an effect on the independence of the courts and judges! The Bar Association meets the Speaker and informs in writing! Sri Lanka Latest News

A meeting between the President of the Bar Association, lawyer Kaushalya Navaratne and a group of members and Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has taken place in Parliament. Sri Lanka Latest News

Navaratne stated that the Bar Association has identified that the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary are being affected by the issuance of statements by some members of parliament inside and outside the parliament regarding the court, the cases in the court and the judges.

They also said that the Bar Association expresses its regret over this situation as it was also seen that statements were issued mentioning the names of currently serving judges. The President of the Bar Association, who asked the Speaker to pay attention to this matter, has also handed over a written request to the Speaker.
