A special investigation has been assigned to the Special Investigation Unit under the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to probe the arrest of the gunman involved in the murder of Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekera and his subsequent release on social media.
In addition, authorities have issued an order to detain and interrogate the shooter, his wife, the motorcyclist who assisted in the crime, and the individual who provided him shelter, for a period of 72 hours.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the shooter had accepted the contract to carry out the assassination for a payment of Rs. 1.5 million.
