Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that there was no wrongdoing in approving the name of Mr Deshbandu Tennakone as the Inspector General of Police by the Constituent Assembly. Sri Lanka Latest News

He also claims that if a person so appointed is removed from that position, there is a proper procedure in that regard.

He also points out that there is no possibility to remove a person appointed on the recommendations of the Executives from the Constituent Assembly without that process.

He also said that the President has reached a position where nothing can be done regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police in the election situation and he is also in the same position as before.

Accordingly, he said that any person can go to the court and re-investigate the matter regarding the appointment of an Inspector General of Police.

The speaker made a special statement in Parliament today regarding the order given by the Supreme Court to suspend Mr Deshbandu Tennakoon’s post of Inspector General of Police and appoint an Acting Inspector General of Police.
