Southern Cross University (Australia) and NSBM Green University (Sri Lanka) have recently signed a landmark partnership to deliver an offshore programme, enabling Sri Lankan students to earn Australian degrees locally at NSBM—without the need to relocate to Australia.
The collaboration aims to expand access to globally recognised qualifications, enhance academic mobility, and offer industry-aligned learning. It will also promote joint research, facilitate staff and student exchanges, and strengthen ties between Australia and Sri Lanka, NSBM said in a media release.
“This initiative will provide highly cost-effective, world-class education to Sri Lankan students, allowing them to save significantly on tuition and living expenses,” said Associate Dean (International & Engagement) Prof. Darshana Sedera of Southern Cross University, who pioneered the programme.
“At NSBM, we will launch the programme with a Bachelor of Business in January 2026, with plans to later expand into information technology and health degrees. Southern Cross University academics will regularly visit NSBM to deliver face-to-face teaching and engage in impactful research alongside NSBM staff and students,” he added.
The programme will combine Southern Cross’ innovative SCU Model and high academic standards with NSBM’s strong local infrastructure and faculty support, ensuring students receive the same quality education as their peers in Australia.
“This collaboration offers our students the opportunity to earn an Australian degree locally, equipping them with practical skills and industry-focused knowledge to succeed in the global economy and become workforce-ready,” said Prof. E.A. Weerasinghe, Vice-Chancellor at NSBM Green University.
