According to the ‘Morning’ newspaper, President’s Counsel Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms, has said  the spread of drugs in Sri Lanka has been supported by some politicians as well as senior police officers.

He stated that in order to control drug use in Sri Lanka, people who import and distribute drugs on a large scale should be prosecuted.

He made these remarks while launching the “Shilpa 2022 Sira Sara” industry and marketing exhibition, which was held at the Battaramulla Diyatha Uyana premises to showcase the creative skills of prison inmates.

He went on to say that in Sri Lanka, 85% of all prison inmates are incarcerated for drug-related offenses, and 95% are drug addicts.
