Given the crisis that has arisen in the Freedom Party, Mr Nimal Siripala De Silva, the senior vice president of the party, called an emergency meeting of the political committee today (08) at 10 am.

Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva has been appointed as the new Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

However, according to the party constitution, there is no right or power to call a politburo meeting, make a decision or make a request, said Freedom Party General Secretary Mr. Sarathi Dushmantha Mitrapala.
