In the meeting of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party held a few moments ago, it was decided to cancel the membership of the party’s patroness, former president Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and the 8 ministers who took over the government’s positions outside of the party’s opinion.
Accordingly, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Lasanta Alagiyawanna, Jagath Pushpa Kumara, Chamara Sampath Dasanayake, Shantha Bandara and Suren, who got ministerial positions in the government, have been revoked from their party membership.
It has been decided to cancel the party membership of this group due to causing unnecessary divisions in the party and violating the party discipline over the past period.
The party’s central committee meeting has been held under the chairmanship of party leader Maithripala Sirisena.
