According to the President’s Media Division, President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has appointed a committee to facilitate and efficiently carry out the process of repatriation of Sri Lankans who have fled to India as refugees as a result of the war.
Ms. Chandima Wickramasinghe, Additional Secretary to the President, chairs the committee, which also includes the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, a senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a senior official from the Registrar General’s Department, and a senior official from the Ministry of Justice.
This decision was reached during a discussion on Monday (05) at the President’s Office, presided over by President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, to bring back Sri Lankans who had fled to India as refugees as a result of the war.
According to reports, approximately 58,000 Sri Lankans are currently residing as refugees in Tamil Nadu, India, with only 3,800 of them prepared to return to Sri Lanka. The efforts in this regard are being coordinated by the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commissioner’s Office in Chennai.
