The Working Committee of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has reaffirmed its earlier decision to appoint list MPs based on the highest percentage of votes received by candidates within their respective constituencies.
Despite mounting pressure and demands from several constituency organizers within the party, the SJB has resolved to proceed with the appointments tomorrow (02), strictly adhering to its policy of rewarding candidates who secured the highest vote shares in their areas.
Over the past few weeks, some organizers had lobbied the party to appoint friends and relatives from the list, leading to internal disputes. In certain cases, organizers even tendered their resignations over disagreements concerning these appointments.
However, except for a few, most of those who had stepped down later engaged in discussions with the party leadership. Following these talks, they agreed to withdraw their resignations and resume their roles as constituency organizers.
During the discussions, the party leadership clearly reiterated that the decision made by the Working Committee prior to the election remains final and cannot be altered.
Following this clarification, the organizers acknowledged the party’s stance and agreed to continue their organizational responsibilities.
