SJB–UNP Leaders’ Meeting Photo Goes Viral, Gains Millions of Views on Social Media
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A photograph showing discussions between the Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Leader of the Opposition, Sajith Premadasa, and senior leaders of the United National Party (UNP) — Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena, Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, and Vice President Naveen Dissanayake — has gone viral on social media.

Reports related to the photograph indicate that it has received more than 6.8 million views across major social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The image has attracted an exceptionally high level of public attention, as hundreds of thousands of SJB and UNP supporters have expressed happiness over the apparent unity reflected in the discussion.

Following the most recent presidential, general, and local government elections, members of both the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the United National Party have consistently maintained that the two parties should unite at the earliest possible opportunity.

Although several chances for such unity emerged in the past, those opportunities reportedly faded soon after due to the actions of certain UNP leaders.

However, on this occasion, the direct involvement of SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa in the discussions, along with the participation of widely accepted young leaders from the UNP, has led to renewed confidence among members of both parties regarding a potential unity between the two political forces.
