After being deceived with promises of advanced job opportunities in the information technology sector, Sri Lankan youth found themselves trapped in Myanmar by terrorists. Similarly, Sri Lankans lured to Russia with promises of higher-paying jobs were forced to join the front lines of the Russia-Ukraine war.
These individuals have since been rescued and returned to Sri Lanka.
In response, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has directed three representatives from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya to investigate the situation and organize further rescue efforts. Members of Parliament J.C. Alawathuwala, K. Sujith Sanjaya Perera, and Wasantha Yapa Bandara will travel to Myanmar and Russia to assess how the Samagi Jana Balawegaya can assist these Sri Lankans.
