Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has announced that several Members of Parliament (MPs) representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) are prepared to resign from their parliamentary seats in order to contest in the upcoming Provincial Council elections.

He made this statement yesterday (11) during the inauguration ceremony of the Excellency D.S. Senanayake Faculty of Political Science and Sustainable Development, held under his patronage at the Samagi Jana Balawegaya head office.

Addressing the event, the Opposition Leader explained that the decision of these MPs to resign and contest is driven by their commitment to forming a Samagi Jana Balawegaya government through the Provincial Councils.

Premadasa emphasized that such acts of dedication and sacrifice are uncommon, particularly while being in the opposition.

Further commenting, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated:

“For what purpose do you make sacrifices and make donations to win the Provincial Council? To win the party. It is very rare that such great sacrifices are made while you are in the opposition. Those sacrifices are definitely made by the President of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, to form the Samagi Jana Balawegaya government.”
