SJB MP Jagath Withana has raised concerns over forming an alliance with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, recalling his statement during the last presidential election that he would “give Anuradhapura the votes he did not receive.”
Withana emphasized that the United National Party (UNP) lacks grassroots strength and is now attempting to merge with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) under the pretext of unity. He asserted that if an alliance is necessary, it could be established in the coming years rather than under the current circumstances.
