It has been learned that the Samagi Jana Balawega MP group meeting has taken a heated turn on the topic of local debt restructuring. Sri Lanka Latest News

Regarding the related topic, the Sahab MPs S.M. Marikkar, Harshana Rajakaruna and Hector Appuhami continued to question Dr. Harsha de Silva.

The MPs have pointed out that the government is preparing to secretly bring the domestic debt restructuring to the parliament, whether there will be a cut in the domestic debt and damage to the EPF-ETF funds. Q

Mr. Harsha de Silva has said that he is not aware of it either.

I don’t know exactly either. According to news, that will not happen. But I also cannot give a guarantee about that…’ Mr. Harsha de Silva has made a comment in such a way that the support of the SJB MP group can be obtained for the restructuring of the local debt.

But opposition leader Sajith Premadasa as well as SJB MPs have stated that they did not support any issue that is harmful to the people.

The MPs have questioned who will take the responsibility if something bad happens to the country’s economy, even if the government’s debt restructuring proposal is supported.

It has also been mentioned by the MPs that there is no need for a united people’s force to act according to the political decisions of the President.

Accordingly, in the end, Sahabaya has decided to analyze all the debt restructuring proposals at the last moment and oppose them if they are harmful to the country.
