A special meeting between a group of representatives of the International Monetary Fund and Mr Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, took place at the office of the leader of the opposition. Sri Lanka Latest News

Mr Peter Breuer (Senior Mission Chief), Ms Sarwat Jahan (Resident Representative), and Manavee Abeyawickrama (Local Economist) were present representing the International Monetary Fund.

There, Mr Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, told the representatives of the International Monetary Fund that the current government has excessively increased many types of taxes, including VAT, giving a heavy tax burden to the people, saying that it is the orders of the International Monetary Fund. The opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa also pointed out here with evidence, facts and data that the common people, pregnant mothers, children, middle class, government employees and other people from many fields have become helpless.

Therefore, under a Samagi Jana Balawega government, Mr Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader, pointed out that under a Samagi Jana Balavega government, the current government is expected to revise the unilateral agreement made with the IMF and enter into an important, populist agreement for the common people and for that, the Samagi Jana Balavega has a formal program. Also, the people who have been helpless due to the economic policies of the current government, and to free the people from that helplessness and to rescue the country from the current bankruptcy and to rescue the people who are suffering and helpless, as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya is working from the opposition, and there is a formal plan to work as soon as the government comes to power. The leader pointed out.

Representing the economic committee of the Samagi Jana Balawega, MP Dr Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, Kabir Hashim, Sujeeva Senasinghe, Dr Nalaka Godaheva, as well as the secretary of the opposition leader, Mr. Thisath Wijegunawardena, were present on this occasion.
