On the 27th, MP Nalin Bandara of the Samagi Jana Balawega party, speaking from the opposition leader’s office, expressed his intention to challenge the Economic Board of the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna to a public discussion on the future economic program of the country. Bandara alleged that despite continuous invitations, Sunil Haddunnetti of the Janata Vimukti Peramuna had been avoiding debates with Members of Parliament Dr Harsha de Silva, Kabir Hashim, and Eran Wickramaratne in Parliament.
He criticized the JVP for presenting differing opinions on Sri Lanka’s political platform and in other countries like Canada and India, accusing them of deceiving the people. Bandara emphasized that without a clear economic program, the JVP refuses to engage in public debate with the Samagi Jana Balawega, despite repeated challenges.
MP Nalin warned that if the invitation from the Samagi Jana Balawega is not accepted, it will become evident to the people that the JVP lacks a coherent economic program. However, on the following day (02), Janata Vimukti Peramuna representative Mr Sunil Handunnetthi stated that if a debate is necessary, their party leader, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is prepared to participate
