With the government’s decision to hold Provincial Council elections within the first quarter of next year, it is reported that a strong competition has emerged between the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB) Members of Parliament intending to contest in the upcoming polls.
Last week, we reported a special news item revealing that four Samagi Jana Balawegaya MPs had already informed party leader Sajith Premadasa of their willingness to resign from their parliamentary positions and contest in the Provincial Council elections.
However, it is now learned that the number of such MPs has increased to 12.
In addition, several Jathika Jana Balawegaya MPs have also decided to step down from their positions and contest in the Provincial Council elections.
Reports indicate that many of these MPs have taken this decision due to their growing frustration over their inability to deliver an effective service to the public despite holding positions in the government.
Furthermore, it is also learned that a considerable number of former influential MPs and ministers from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Pohottuwa) party have already expressed their willingness to contest in the upcoming Provincial Council elections.
