The Ministry of Finance also says that the liquor licenses of several large-scale alcohol manufacturing companies that had not paid excise duty were suspended, and later those companies were re-licensed after paying the arrears.
However, after the payment of the arrears, the large-scale liquor manufacturing companies have again placed a liquor tax of seven hundred crore rupees.
Joining the scholarly lecture on Economy, Politics, Today, Country and Tomorrow organized in Colombo yesterday, Member of Parliament Dr Harsha De Silva mentioned that there are big irregularities in the collection of taxes by the liquor tax officials from the alcohol producers.
Therefore, the MP also mentioned that in order to streamline the collection of excise duty, a digital system should be introduced in the excise department.
He also mentioned that in the past, large-scale liquor manufacturing companies have engaged in large-scale fraudulent activities regarding the stickers placed on liquor bottles.
