An official of the Parliament said that he was suspended from work in consideration of the information provided by the employees so far regarding the incident.
A three-member committee was recently appointed by the Secretary General of the Parliament to look into the matter after information was revealed regarding the alleged sexual harassment and rape of some young beautiful maids in the Housekeeping Department of the Parliament.
After the appointment of this committee, a group of employees voluntarily appeared before the committee and revealed many details regarding the abuses that had happened to them. The assistant housekeeper has been suspended considering the information provided by the maids.
The employees have revealed information about several other officers in relation to the incidents of violence and the report states that action will be taken against them in the future.
In the meantime, information has been revealed to the heads of parliament regarding several incidents of a group of officers and employees threatening the female employees in various ways to prevent them from testifying regarding this incident. The heads of parliament said that they are looking into the matter.
The Forum of Women Members of Parliament is also conducting a separate investigation regarding this incident. The member of that forum, Ms. Rohini Kumari Wijeratne, Matale District Member of Parliament, has already received statements from several employees.
