According to reliable sources, several governors have decided to resign within the next few days.
It is reported that they have taken this decision after the phone calls made by former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to these governors.
Earlier, the President’s Secretariat had given notice to this group to leave, but no one had taken steps to leave.
One of the governors had taken legal advice from the former Chief Justice Sarath N Silva and he had informed that since the president is a successor, he has no ability to remove the governors.
On that basis, none of the governors had taken steps to give resignation letters.
