A group of senior geologists from the National Building Research Institute have planned to join a special observation today regarding the risk of active landslides in the Karandagolla area, which is about two and a half kilometers away from the Uma Oya project. Sri Lanka Latest News
The Badulla district secretary said that in order to reduce the risk of landslides, the necessary activities are currently being carried out to bring down the water that remains high in the hilly terrain through short-term methods.
At present, the authorities are closely monitoring the landslide risk that was activated a few days ago in the sloping part called Malittagolla on an area of about two acres in the Ella-Karandagolla area.
The residents of the area suspect that the condition of the water flowing and the presence of silt showing signs of landslides is due to the filling of the tunnel of the Uma Oya project with water.
However, it has not been confirmed by hydrological or geological research, Badulla District Secretary Mr. Prabhat Abeywardena said yesterday.
Meanwhile, a group including the Badulla district secretary also joined an observation in that area yesterday.
