Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had to adjourn the proceedings of the Parliament today.
It was with the announcement by Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa that the debate on the Express Pearl ship which was scheduled for today and tomorrow cannot be given.
The minister stated that if this debate is granted, it will hinder the on-going court proceedings.
Parliament has been adjourned for 10 minutes due to the heated atmosphere.
However, according to the parliamentary agenda, today and tomorrow have been reserved for the Express Pearl debate, so if the debate is not held, it is not possible to carry out any other activities on the relevant two days, according to parliamentary sources.
