Information was revealed in the Parliamentary Committee on Government Finance that the price formula prepared to determine the price of imported milk powder has not been implemented since 2019 and due to this, imported companies have been selling milk powder at a high profit. Sri Lanka Latest News
This information came to light when officials from the Treasury and the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security were called before the committee.
An official of the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety who spoke here said that although a price formula was made, it was not approved by the Treasury.
Dr. Harshada Silva, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Government Finance, said here that he prepared the price formula for milk powder in the year 2018.
Accordingly, Mr Harsha de Silva, who blamed the officials, called the Director of the Consumer Authority on the phone and asked for information.
It was revealed that this milk price formula should be updated every year but it has not been done.
Through that, it was revealed before the committee that milk powder companies have been making unfair profits for 5 years.
Mr Harshada Silva also said, ‘It is nothing to hear that the milkmen are under attack’.
The Chairman said that the Ministry of Commerce submits a document to the Parliament but does not even know the history and cannot approve this document.
