The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power has stated that the US President Joe Biden’s administration greatly values its partnership with Sri Lanka.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the former US ambassador to the UN mentioned that she had a good discussion with the Sri Lankan Head of the State Ranil Wickremesinghe during the inauguration ceremony of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, president-elect of the Republic of Maldives.

“Good discussions w/Sri Lankan Pres @RW_UNP while @presidencymv inauguration. Heard about Sri Lanka’s economic recovery & stressed importance of political reforms. As recent @DFCgov  $550M+ investment in SL port infrastructure shows, Biden Admin greatly values partnership w/Sri Lanka” Power tweeted.

Power also highlighted that she heard about Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and stressed the importance of political reforms, during the discussion with President Wickremesinghe.

Power expressed that as the recent U.S. International Development Finance Corporation’s (DFC) commitment of over $ 550 million investment in Sri Lanka’s port infrastructure shows, the Biden Admin greatly values its partnership with Sri Lanka.

Power met Wickremesinghe on the sidelines of the ceremony where Maldives appointed their new President, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, following a much talked about election, where geopolitics and Chinese inroads into the Indian Ocean were key issues.
