The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) organized a peaceful protest yesterday (30) in Godakawela town, Ratnapura, demanding accountability for those involved in the coal scam and urging a reduction in the soaring fuel, gas, and electricity bills.

The protest, held under the theme “Pacha Madiwata Horu Anurata Ba,” was led by Ratnapura District SJB MP B. Ariyawansa. A large crowd from the Godakawela area, including local political leaders, civil society activists, and other residents, participated in the demonstration.

Participants called on the government to ease the financial burden on the public by reducing gas, electricity, and fuel bills, and to ensure that those responsible for the coal scam face appropriate punishment.
