Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that a programme to suppress democracy through Hadith law cannot be permitted. He stressed that the state of emergency was introduced to support the people, not to suppress the media, yet the ministers responsible for law and order continue to make such statements. He further noted that the emergency law was not enacted to undermine democratic principles but to provide relief to the public. Premadasa added that social media activists are now being threatened under these regulations and emphasised that this repressive approach by the government must be stopped.
