Despite 15 years passing since the end of the war, there is still no national program for women-headed families affected by the loss of men and parents. Opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa emphasized the need for a dedicated program for women-headed families in the North East and across Sri Lanka under a Samagi Jana Balawegaya government.
Mr. Premadasa made these remarks during a donation event at Vanni Mullaitivu Suthantipuram Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, where he presented 1,177,000 rupees worth of classroom equipment and dictionaries as part of the 324th phase of the Sakwala Suhuru classrooms program. Additionally, he donated 100,000 rupees to the school’s development account.
The opposition leader also stressed the importance of establishing new businesses based on information technology parks in every area’s secretariat division. He explained that creating new industries and providing jobs will help unemployed youths gain employment and income, ultimately spurring economic development.
Under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s Breath Program, medicines and hospital equipment worth 183.7 million rupees have been distributed to 61 hospitals. Furthermore, the Sakwala Bus Program has provided 89 buses worth 5 million rupees each to 89 schools, totaling 434.2 million rupees. The Sakwala Information Technology Program has equipped 324 schools with comfortable classroom equipment at a cost of 358 million rupees.
